Roesli Hakim

Roesli Hakim was born in North Sumatra, in 1936. Roesli was educated in the Seniman Merdeka (independent artists), North Sumatra. A member of the young Indonesian artists in Jogjakarta in the 1950s. He has been living in Bali since the mid 1960s and his work reflects his observation of daily life. The people are shown active in their environment, be it the market, temple or village. He works from many sketches he has made on field trips to Karang Asem and Singaraja. He currently lives in Denpasar. His work appeared in the exhibition "Views From the Real World" July 3rd-29th, 2005 at Pranoto's Art Gallery, also including three other landscape artists, Bambang Wiwoho, Kerry Pendergrast and Munadi. |
